I am getting cold feet on selling my car. Can anyone tell me if the option of the larger barrels and pistons is possible or do I have to go to the extent of an engine transplant. I am not familiar with these cars, is the stroke the same with only a bigger capacity barrel and what other mods would be required, will the barrels fit onto the crankcase? Anyone out there that can offer advice and also a location where the work could be done?
The only reason I am selling is because of the steep hills and the inability to traverse at a reasonable speed and not get run over by another vehicle.1 Apr 2012 at 5:30 am #761JohnKeymasterTo be honest, I think you should keep your car as original as possible, and accept that is is an oldie and life was a bit slower back then.
If you wanna go fast, use your other car, and if you like a day in the slow lane … I guess you get my drift.
Personally (although I have the souped up version, ie 602 cc), I love going for a drive in the hills …1 Apr 2012 at 6:22 am #762AnonymousInactiveHi John,
I agree entirely about originality, the problem is that I simply can’t use it here and really want to keep it. The only was I can go anywhere is on the Princes Highway, major road for trucks and people in a hurry, I could not resist the car, it is so good, the horsepower on mine is 9HP or 12?, you have 29hp, if I was to put a bigger engine in, keep the original, that way, the car can be returned to original if required at a later date, likewise with the barrel transplant, can always go back as it is not really a drastic modification, more a practical solution. Do you see where I am coming from?

What is the bloody point of replying to a PM only to find one is being ignored, weird…
Sorry folks2 Apr 2012 at 8:34 am #766AnonymousInactiveHi John
thank you for your reply, you are of course correct, I will see what happens in the next few days, the car is on Ebay and if it does not sell, I will be happy to keep it and take your advice, live with it and after all these years of cursing at the grey army towing their caravans at 40kph, maybe I can get some of my own back. It is such a good thing and such a contrast to my other cars which makes it more fun and a hoot to take out. Hope to see you down in this neck of the woods one day. Maybe I should just add a 602 to the collection!

not sure if I have offended you, did not see your reply if there was one directed to me, thanks for your input in the past
