I am finishing a long and somewhat frustrating renovation of a 1983 Charleston. I looked for sometime for one of these that was not too remote. When one turned up, I lost all sense of reason and bought it . The body was relatively rust free, but the rest was a nightmare. Sparing bthe details, I have replaced the interior, the top, the master cylinder, rebuilt the front discs, removed and cleaned the gas tank(twice), purchased numerous needed and uneeded spares from Ebay as well as ECAS ,etc. I finaly got to the point of starting the engine, which previously had turned over freely. The starter stalled out, and the engine/tranny froze. I checked the valves for possible damage, I am unable to pry the flywheel in either direction and rocking the car does not free it. (The clutch is centrifugal and appears to be engaged) What could have happened? I would appreciate some comments before I have to remove the engine.

Try taking the starter motor out, quite a simple job.
