hello everybody :
We just subscribed to participate in 2016 !
We are a bit desperate for all kind of information like :
- Can we ship the cars in a 40 foot container ( 3 of them ) direct to Alice springs ? we are short in vacation days so we like to fly direct into Alice springs .
- Can we store some spare parts like gear boxes and stuff on the camp site were we start ?
- After we finish in Alice springs can we repack the 3 cars in a 40 foot container for the return to Europe ?
It would be nice to hear some comment of You experienced guys !
Thanks a lot .

1. freight to alice springs would be very expensive.
2. you will need to clear customs at a port, Adelaside, Melbourne, Sydney ? and have the container unpacked then repacked.
I would suggest shipping to adelaide and clearing customes there, and either shipping the cars on the train (called the Ghan, check internet for details) or flying to adelaide and driving to alice springs.
either way, you will need to check the paperwork requirements for driving the cars in australia.
I suggest you contact Peter Fosselius (@CViking) as he is more familiar with australian import requirements
3 you MUST obtain Australian import approval before shipping.

All cars MUST comply to ADR (Australian Design Rules) see this https://infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/adr_online.aspx Even some Australians importing 2cvs years back, still have 2cvs stranded due to problems getting them through registration. Further more, tourist should not be able to import and register as they could in the past. I think that has changed but not entirely sure. If you want to raid, bringing in the 2cv on a tourist visa (Carnet de Passage) is easy just heaps of effort and money. You must take the car with you within the 12 month allow in Australia. NEVER ship a car without permits and do heaps of research. I’m sorry but pretty sure, you’ll give up at some point. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply
We do understanding that iT Will take a ship load of paperwork to get iT done.
Out of the site we understand that many teams are struggeling with the same problems.
We NOw are with a group 4 cars to be shipped to Adelaide in a 40 foot container.
Can anybody support us (and potentionaly all other foreigners ) with a shipping adress in adelaide where we have to send the container to ?
Ofcourse are we returning the cars back to Holland .
So we are using the carnet the passage !
Time is ticking out we think we have to ship middle of may 2016.
Becouse we ship 4cars we have to store the steel ramps we use for packing in the container Some where during our raid and reuse them for return shipment.
We do need Some assistence
