Join the 2CV Club of Queensland on a road trip to Carnarvon Gorge in Central Queensland in April 2010 (18th – 24th).
This is the best time of year to visit the park because at this time the lilies on Lake Nuga Nuga are usually flowering and it is a sight to behold (probably especially with all the rain we’ve had).
We are meeting in Roma (see map here) on Sunday 18 April and will camp in the Roma Showgrounds. If you do not have a tent, alternative accommodation can be arranged in the town (see more accommodation info at the 2CV QLD website).
Then on Monday we drive to Carnarvon National Park, where accommodation is arranged from Monday night to Thursday night.
After a nice meal and a few drinks on Thursday night, we drive back to Roma on Friday. We got eight cars (2 from NSW and the rest from QLD) committed so far, and two doubters.
It’s not too late to join.

We left Sydney yesterday morning, crossing the Blue Mountains to go to Kanangra Walls, about 30km of great dirt road past Jenolan Caves. We learned that the people camped next to us had seen Daffy Duck in and around Alice Springs in 2008. However, my travelling companion couldn’t sleep, and today after driving through Oberon to Rockley (more dirt roads) and then lunching at Bathurst, he pulled the plug and said he couldn’t go on, as he was in too much pain. Being shot in the backside (2 rounds) in Vietnam, where we served together, didn’t help, but he can’t sit or lie down comfortably. Sadly we had to return to Sydney today. He flies back to Melbourne tomorrow. He gave me all his camping gear as that part of his life has finished. Very sad for a man that was so active and who has climbed some 7,000m mountains in Nepal, Tibet, Ladakh and Pakistan.
Daffy Duck was ready to go. I have added rubber stone guards on the rear mudguards. I have also added “V8 Ready” exhaust to the triangles below the bonnet. I am wearing my home made Daffy Duck cap, complete with eyes, and a yellow beak. The photos were taken yesterday at Hartley, the historic village just west of Mt Victoria.
