A website for owners of the world's greatest little car

I have just bought a 1959 ripple bonnet 2cv, it is still in France awaiting shipping. During the brief time I had in France, I could not find an oil filter fitted to the engine, am I mistaken and it is in some obscure location or did the early models not have one. The car is very original and in excellent condition so I do not think someone has modified it.

As near as I can discover, there were no oil filters at all on 375, 425 & 435 cc engines and none on 602cc units until November 1969. For the next year there was an internal filter and from November 1970 there was an external cartridge filter. The information is not crystal clear so a confirmation from a more knowlegeable source would be good. But at least, Tasmanisle, you haven’t any bits missing.
cheers,
John P
Thank you John, that clears up one more mystery of this little car, it is so hard to find out anything about the early models,
Regards
Rob

Does a lawnmower have an oil filter? :p
Thats a good point John, I should have realised that and the lawnmower is probably faster! Maybe should transplant a briggs and stratton.
